Known as the "Sunshine Coast" and close to Brighton which caters to a bustling, busy and younger gay and lesbian scene, Eastbourne provides elegant surroundings for mature gay women who prefer to socialise more discreetly. Radclyffes' venue is completely self-contained with its own private entrance upstairs at the Crown & Anchor, Marine Parade - a short walk from the sea front with its Victorian pier. Club night, with a strict no smoking policy but ample seating, takes on the second Saturday of each month from 8pm to midnight. Radclyffes' own DJ will play anything from Glenn Miller and Dusty Springfield to Dido and Beyonce on request, promising an evening of jiving and jiggling to a good beat on the dance floor. And to provide "heart-starters" for those who need them, a cash-only bar with pub prices serves cocktails, spirits and wines.

Entrance on regular club nights is £6 for members and £8 for non-members and members´guests. Radclyffes is currently offering a special introductory annual membership rate of £10 which includes a regular newsletter featuring club night dates as well as other special club and local events. For example, to celebrate the start of International Women's Open tennis festival starring world-class tennis stars from 16 -23 June, Radclyffes will be holding a special club night on Friday June 22. For full details, and to book tickets for special club events, email: radcliffes@tiscalli.co.uk

If you're planning a holiday in England, it is well worth spending a few days in The South Downs dominate the town and several nature trails lead to areas such as the nearby villages of East Dean and Birling Gap, and landmarks like the Seven Sisters, Belle Tout Lighthouse and Beachy Head. In the town itself there are four theaters which put on London West End shows at reasonable prices.

Getting to Eastbourne is easy. The nearest airport is Gatwick with easyJet providing low cost fares. There is a frequent train service from Gatwick to Eastbourne. From London, trains from Victoria station are also frequent and the journey takes about 90 minutes.

And where to stay? AVIVA strongly recommends The Langtons Guest House - a lesbian-owned Victorian seafront guest house for women that offers eight individually themed ensuite rooms. Starting prices are for as little as £30 per person (for more info and booking go to www.thelangtons.net). The Langtons is within 10 to 15 minutes walk from Eastbourne's shopping centre, and only ten minutes from Radclyffes...!

See you there!
